What is cloud computing?

In brief, Cloud Computing is online-based computing in which shared resources (such as network printers), software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand.

Why Go to Cloud Computing?
Cloud Computing saves costs by eliminating the need for high infrastructure expenses and also provides an easy to use, cost efficient, flexible, dynamic and secure environment for modern businesses.

What is a public cloud?
This is a service that anyone can tap into with a network connection and a credit card. It has been described as a "shared infrastructures with pay-as-you-go economics". Safaricom as an enterprise grade cloud provider is a typical example of a public cloud.

What is a private cloud?
A private cloud resembles a public cloud but delivers services entirely within the firewall for the benefit of an enterprise's users.

What training will be required?
Normal user training is required, but very little technical or database training is necessary. Safaricom manages this for you. In time, training will be self-taught and online.

How much will it cost?
Normally there is no requirement for CAPEX (capital expenditure), cloud computing follows an OPEX (operating expense) model over the term of the contract.

What is included in the service agreement?
All costs and services are itemized; however if you wish to add or change services, the agreement may be amended.

Will my data be totally secure?
Yes. Apart from the high-security data centers where your servers and data is hosted, the Safaricom Cloud provides multi-tenancy which means your data is stored separately from other data.
